Short Bio

Dr. Usha Nori is an economist and researcher specializing in International trade and International finance. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics, with her doctoral research focusing on “International Trade.” Her expertise spans trade policy, industrial competitiveness, agricultural economics, and social sector development, supported by advanced quantitative methodologies.  Prior to Joining IPE, She served Indian Institute of Economics, Hyderabad in the position of Director-In charge for about one and half year (2011-13).

As a senior faculty member at the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), she has extensive experience in teaching and research. Her academic portfolio includes courses such as Managerial Economics, International Business, Macroeconomics, WTO and trade agreements, Export marketing and Econometrics, where she integrates empirical rigor with policy applications. Beyond academia, she actively engages in high-impact consultancy projects for government and international institutions, leveraging sophisticated modelling techniques to inform evidence-based policymaking.

Dr. Nori has led and contributed to numerous national and international research initiatives, collaborating with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (GoI), Department of Science and Technology (DST), and Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Rural Development and Planning Department, Commissionerate of Industries, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Department of Food & Public Distribution System; Social Welfare Department at State level; Planning Department, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States. Her advisory roles at various levels have supported inclusive growth frameworks. Her recent ICSSR-funded study, “Export Competitiveness of Indian SMEs and the Rise of Global Value Chains,” examined manufacturing and IT sectors, offering critical insights for trade strategy. Currently working for a project sponsored by NABARD on Banks financing to Agri businesses.  

A committed academic contributor, she has published in reputed national and international journals and holds leadership roles as Editor of the Journal of Economic and Policy Research (IPE). Her peer review work for the Asian Economic Review further underscores her standing in the field. Combining analytical depth with policy relevance, her work bridges research and real-world economic challenges.
