Doctoral Research at IPE

Doctoral research at the Institute of Public Enterprise is among the oldest and largest programmes of its kind in the field of social sciences. IPE is recognised as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for doctoral studies by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education (MoE) — earlier the Ministry of Human Resource Development — Government of India. The Institute’s research wing is supported by a strong faculty contingent and a number of Ph.D. research scholars, sponsored by ICSSR and IPE, who work across various fields of management and the social sciences, as well as on the Institute’s identified thrust areas of research. Doctorates produced by the Institute now hold positions in reputed organisations and institutions in India and abroad, and the Institute is associated with several universities, including Osmania University, the University of Hyderabad, Andhra University, the University of Madras, and Anna University, for the conduct of its Ph.D. programme.

Institutional Doctoral Fellowship

Under the aegis of the ICSSR, IPE offers ten Doctoral Research Fellowships in Social Sciences each year. This programme is designed to equip students and teachers with the skills required for careers in education and research.

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

The Institute also offers the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), a doctoral-level programme designed to develop scholars and researchers across various areas of management and allied disciplines. The programme has been introduced with the objective of producing high-quality research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in management and the social sciences.

The FPM forms part of the Institute’s broader research ecosystem, which includes interdisciplinary research centres in corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, sustainable tourism, and financial education. Scholars enrolled in the programme are guided by IPE faculty to ensure rigorous, well-supervised doctoral research, and their work is expected to acknowledge the Institute’s support upon successful completion.

The Institute’s research policy provides doctoral scholars, including those in the FPM, with access to institutional resources such as statistical and data analysis software, research databases, and dedicated faculty supervision. Guidance of doctoral scholars is also formally recognised as part of faculty research contribution, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to sustained, high-quality doctoral research.
