Dr Asha Lourdes is presently working as an Assistant Professor and Student Counselor at the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad. She has more than twenty three years of Administrative, Teaching and Counseling experience.
As a Child Psychologist and the Team Leader of the DISTRICT PRIMARY EDUCATION PROGRAMME( DPEP)’S Pilot Project carried out in the Districts of Warangal, Karimnagar and Kurnool, titled Integrated Education for the Disabled(IED) who along with her team members were able to successfully integrate the Children with Special Needs ( ie Children who are Hearing Impaired, mild Visually Impaired, Orthopaedically Handicapped, Borderline Mentally Challenged, with Mild Cerebral Palsy, and Children with Behavioural Problems) into the regular schools along with the normal Students, and prevailed upon the Government to provide these Children with Special Needs with Hearing Aids, Spectacles, Tricycles, Crutches etc. Since then the Government has been admitting Children with Special Needs into the regular Schools.
Dr Asha as a Resource Person trained the Government School Teachers and the Members of the Village Education Committees in the identification and integration of Children with Special Needs.
She also participated in the Indian Standardisation of the Denver Developmental Screening Test-II (DDST-II) which is useful to determine whether a Child is achieving the Developmental Milestones in the areas of gross motor, fine motor adaptive, language and personal Social Skills and is used with Children from birth to 6 years of age. This test produced a sensitivity rate of 95% and is accurate in detecting Children with Developmental Delays.
Dr Asha has also published Study Material in Child And Adolescent Psychology for the Students of Teacher Training Institutes( B.Ed.Colleges) of Telangana.
